sociological research

books.jpeg

My primary research areas are sociology of law, criminal courts, organizations, and mental health. My first book, Outsourcing Justice (2011), examines the critical role of nonprofit pretrial release caseworkers in California’s bail reform movement. My work has also been published in numerous other academic journals. I am now writing my second book, Clinical Trials, about the role of case management professionals in mental health courts. photography project

In 2013, I started blending photography with sociological themes. In the Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) Photography Project, I gave disposable cameras to justice-involved veterans asked them to take pictures of their lives under court-mandated treatment. Click on Photography above to learn more.

video and film projects

My team and I created two short videos (Effective Weaponry and Back to the Light) about veterans treatment courts. We completed a 19-minute documentary film, Honorably Discharged, about the contemporary sexual assault crisis in the United States Armed Services. Click on film and videos above to learn more.
